Proposal for a Strategic Economic and Eco-social Plan for Busturialdea-Urdaibai from civil society. 2025

Over the course of a year, Gernika Gogoratuz, in collaboration with Gernikatik Mundura, has been working on a document setting out economic and eco-social proposals for the future of the region, which has been shared with associations, groups and individuals in Busturialdea. To this end, following an initial draft by Ramón Zallo Elgezabal, ideas and proposals were discussed in six sectoral meetings with groups and individuals from social, business, educational and institutional spheres, refining topics and broadening perspectives. This process led to the finalisation of two comprehensive documents, which were further refined during the plenary session of groups and representatives at the Forum ‘The Future of Busturialdea: Strategic Dialogues’, organised by Gernika Gogoratuz on 18 and 19 November 2024 at the Museum of Euskal Herria in Gernika-Lumo.

The result is two collective documents published here. The first document is ‘A strategic economic and eco-social plan for Busturialdea-Urdaibai from civil society’, and the second, ‘Twelve key ideas for comprehensive economic and eco-social planning in Busturialdea-Urdaibai’, a distillation of the criteria from the first.

Although drafts of an ‘Ecological Charter for Busturialdea-Urdaibai’ and a brief governance document in the form of ‘Proposals for participation in the future of Busturialdea-Urdaibai’ were also discussed, it was deemed appropriate to develop them further and leave their finalisation for the future.
