On 10 September, we welcomed a group of 14 students and PhD candidates linked to the Hans Böckler Foundation, the foundation of the German Trade Union Confederation, as part of a study trip to Bilbao and Mondragón aimed at exploring different experiences and gaining a deeper understanding of the social and political history of the Basque Country.

One of the main focuses of the trip was the Mondragón cooperative movement and its origins, together with an interest in learning more about the history of the labour movement in the region, the Spanish Civil War and historical memory. After visiting the Gernika Peace Museum, the group came to Gernika Gogoratuz, where we shared our work and opened a space for exchange around memory, peace and coexistence.

The visit offered an opportunity to exchange reflections with young students and researchers from Germany and to continue creating spaces for encounter and learning around historical memory and peacebuilding.
