Pete T. Cenarrusa Award

The Cenarrusa Foundation for Basque Culture in Idaho, USA, gave the award to José Mari Gorroño “for his contribution to historical memory, his commitment to good governance and dedication to political, cultural and socio-economic development” in the city.

According to the jury the mayor’s “focus on the conservation and promotion of the Basque language, cultural expression, Basque identity and human rights”. “His work has always been focussed on making the city friendlier and more modern, without losing its character or forgetting that its greatest asset is historical memory.”
