The 8th Edition of the Antimilitarist and Historical Memory Conference in Gernika-Lumo will present the topic “Towards the prohibition of autonomous weapons: is a world without wars, possible?” with the participation of the “Stop Killer Robots” campaign. The event, which is organized by Gernika Gogoratuz, Ingeniería Sin Fronteras de Euskadi ISF-Euskadi, Gernikatik Mundura, Ideasur and Stop Killer Robots, will take place next November 20th in Astra, an old weapons factory which has been currently converted into the municipality’s sociocultural factory.

This year, the program will feature Roser Martinez and Jaoquin Rodriguez, both have been awarded for their research, publications and their constant struggle to the ban lethal autonomous weapons (LAWS) and they are responsible of the “Stop Killer Robots” campaign in the Spanish state.

“Stop Killer Robots” campaign is an alliance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that has been working since 2012 to ban fully autonomous weapons and to maintain human control over the use of force.

In addition, this edition will present Tica Font from Centre Délas per la Pau, an independent Center of Research on issues related to disarmament and peace.

There will be other speakers such as Rodrigo Mendez, Colombian Diplomat, Joseba Sanz from Ongi Etorri Errefuxiatuak platform and Iban Zaldua, writer and author of 42 stories that address the last 20 years of violence and repression in the Basque Country.
