René Cassin Human Rights Award presented by the Basque Government to María Oianguren Idigoras (2010)

The René Cassin Award was created by the Basque Government with the aim of publicly recognising the work of individuals or legal entities whose actions make an outstanding contribution to the promotion of human rights values in our society. The award is named the honour René Cassin, born in Bayonne in 1887, considered to be the main inspiration behind the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1968.

Member of the AIPAZ´s Board of Directors, the Spanish Association of Research for Peace, Eurobasque. Basque Council of the European Movement, Gernikatik Mundura-ONGD and Board of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve Cooperation Council.

She has been president of the Forum of Associations of Education in Human Rights and Peace (2007-2011) and president of the Consultative Council of the Plan for Coexistence and Human Rights of the Basque Government (2018-2020).
